now you make things pretty!

January 27, 2014

Want to learn how to paint furniture like a pro? Want to try out chalk paint without making the $45 dollar investment for a quart of paint? Want to hang out with other fun creative people for a weekend while learning how to turn old furniture into beautiful new treasures? Then you should take my class!

I am teaching a weekend workshop of paint techniques for furniture at the Visual Arts Center on February 15th and 16th. The class is covers everything you need to know to start fixing up furniture on your own, from where to buy furniture, to what to look for in a piece, how to make repairs, and everything about how to paint and finish the piece.

We talk about different paint options including chalk paint, milk paint and regular old latex. And we cover distressing, antiquing, how to get that layered chippy paint look, metallic paint, stencils, and decoupage. There is a lesson on basic upholstery and we go over the final finishing steps – providing a protective coat for your paint finish.

Each student will get to work on and complete 7-8 wooden test tiles and we will completely refinish one chair as a class.

I just checked and there are only two seats open so sign up quick. I teach the class four times a year so if you miss this one you can always sign up in the spring or summer!

Here is the chair that my last class put together. It is really fun to have everyone  vote on the fabric and paint. You never know what is going to happen but the chairs always turn out cool!
