make me pretty – my biggest project yet!

August 20, 2012

When I re-did this chair for R•Home magazine a couple months ago I knew that I had three more just like it waiting in the garage for me to work on. Along with a dining room table with a leaf. Oh my goodness, the same chair four times. This was not super exciting but seeing it all finished and put together is pretty awesome!

Here is the before:

And here it is all set up at the West End Antiques Mall.

The sad thing is that this dining set is so much nicer than the one I have at home (which could really use some work)! If I had a smaller family this might just have ended up in my house.

make me pretty – happy yellow chair

March 14, 2011

I am a total sucker for kids furniture. It’s so small and cute and you can paint it crazy fun colors. So this little vintage kids chair totally caught my eye. I decided to paint it bright yellow. Then I used some black and white fabric to make a seat cushion. I just happened to have some buttons the exact same color as the paint (I’m a bit of a craft supply hoarder!) that I sewed onto the cushion. I used a different pattern of the same fabric for the top of the chair.

I know the cushion is a little small but I wanted to see the yellow of the seat around it.

And it’s the perfect size for an almost 3 year old!

make make me pretty – black art deco table

February 4, 2010

Snow storms are good for sledding, hot chocolate and craft projects! While my little snow bunny was having outdoor adventures with his daddy, I was happy to sit in my warm house and finish this little table.

This table is one I scored from a moving neighbor a couple months back.

white table

After I sanded the heck out of it I was tempted to leave it as is. There is a part of me that is into super distressed shabby chic. But alas, this table had another future in store.

I decided to take the advice of Sarah, from La Diff: “that white table is just crying out for some high gloss black paint and a piece of glass inset on the top… a really deco BAR TABLE.”

I used some super shiny black lacquer paint. But I wanted to give the table a little extra decoration so I got a piece of fabric that I thought would blend in nicely on the table top.

I think this table turned out super classy and I am really glad I didn’t leave it super shabby chic! Thanks for the great advice Sarah!
