make me pretty – the big kitchen reveal

May 21, 2015

The kitchen is done! It has been done for a couple of weeks but I have been getting everything moved back in, putting on drawer pulls and assembling chairs and stools.

I still haven’t finished the island. It still needs some trim around the bottom and an antiquing glaze over the green paint – but we are almost there!

Just so you can recall how bad it was before:

And now the beautiful afters!

make me pretty – 70’s chair take two

October 6, 2012

When I get a set of chairs I know I should re-do them the same and keep them as a set. But that is so boring! So when I re-did this chair match, I bought enough fabric to do the set. Then I stumbled upon another super cute pattern that would work with the  chair too.

So we are going to play the really fun game: which re-do do you like best!

Here is the chair before:

And here is the first re-do:

And the latest re-do:

make me pretty – mid century modern chair

February 29, 2012

I recently had the chance to re-do this mid-century chair for a friend. She found it at a thrift store and the wood frame is in super good shape. The cushions needed some help. You know I’m not the biggest fan of sewing intensive projects but I do love a dramatic make over so I decided to take this on.

Here is the before:

If you feel intimidated by sewing projects just remember you can take apart the old cushion covers to make patterns for the new ones. Just take lots of pictures of how the cushions look before you take them apart. like this:

And here is the finished chair:

And part of the happy new chair family:

make me pretty – mod chair

July 7, 2010

I love the clean lines of mid-century modern furniture so when i found this chair at the thrift store I new I had to re-do it. This is the kind of piece I usually wouldn’t paint but there was a chunk of wood that was missing and needed to be filled and I didn’t want to try to match the stain. So I found some really fun modern graphic flower fabric (designed by Jessica Jones – check out her super awesome blog howaboutorange) and got to painting.

Here is the before:

And after:

my wine is prettier than yours

June 30, 2010

In between the furniture pieces I try to squeeze in some smaller projects. I was excited to work on this wine rack because I really liked it’s modern shape. Here is how I found it:

And after some paint and pretty paper:
