make me pretty – am i a table or a bench?

April 9, 2014

I found this table/bench in the alley and decided to paint it a fun color. I had been wanting to try the Annie Sloan red which I had heard was a really good red. I have found it really hard to find the perfect red. It’s either too orange or two pink but this one was just right.

Now tell me, is this piece of furniture a table or a bench? I made a pillow for it thinking it would be a great bench with a little table spot on each side but it just didn’t look right.

make me pretty – typewriter table

February 20, 2013

This typewriter table was another Vienna, side of the road rescue, from my friend Corbin. Her husband almost claimed it as his own but Corbin rescued it again and it made its way down to richmond.

I took off the desk top and spray painted the legs a dark red. Then I painted the wood table top with chalk paint and added the number 24. I distressed it, waxed it and put it all back together. Don’t ask me what the number 24 means, I just wanted to add some vintage numbers.

make me pretty – sassy red chair

November 15, 2012

I have been playing it too safe lately. Too much cream and pale gray. So I decided to step out of my comfort zone. It’s time for red!

Here is the chair before:

I am still loving the red and pale blue combo so I decided to pair up my bright red chair with a blue and white chevron seat cushion.

I took this little lovely over to the West End Antiques Mall never really expecting it to sell. I have developed a theory that only my more conservative pieces sell there. But this chair proved me wrong. I obviously still have no idea how things work over there! She sold in a couple weeks.

PS – This is not the first time I’ve worked on this style chair. See the other re-do here.

make me pretty – turquoise & red, a lovely color combo

June 26, 2011

I found this strange mini dresser? large jewelry chest? at a yard sale and thought it would be fun to paint. I thought it was missing a knob but was happily to find it in one of the drawers when I got home. But unhappily I found that one of the drawers was missing the back wood piece. So I had to cut and attach a new wood piece before I got started with the fun part – sanding and painting.

I have been wanting to paint something with a turquoise, white and red color combo. The colors of this dresser inspired me (find the tutorial for it here if you are into it!)

So I painted my piece turquoise – I got some of those little paint sample jars at Home Depot. They are totally big enough for a small project so save yourself some money! Then I used a stencil from Lotta Jansdotter to add some red flowers. If you don’t know Lotta you should check her out – I love her style!

Finally, here is my after:
