make me pretty – old rocker

January 20, 2015

I’ve had this old rocking chair in my garage for a long time. I imagined that it was going to be a very involved re-do but it actually ended up being super fast.

This chair is old and the wood had an interesting texture to it, almost like leather, that I didn’t want to loose so I just did one coat of paint and then sanded some of it off.

I took off the crazy, falling apart seat and cut a new base out of plywood with my new best friend, the jigsaw. I used a super thick piece of foam and covered it with this pretty fabric, which was actually a Dwell Studio table cloth that I got on clearance at Target a year or two ago.

I also used a brand of paint on this chair that I have never tried before. It’s called Fusion and they sell it RVA Antiques. I really liked it and it is cheaper than chalk paint, yeah!

make me pretty – do the robot

December 8, 2010

Some of you might remember the owl chair that I made for my friend’s sons a couple months ago. After I finished I started thinking I really needed to make something for Jasper. I had a kids rocking chair in my furniture stock pile that would be a perfect fit. I just had to decide what fabric to use. What is Japser really into? Robots!

It all started with Wall•e. He hadn’t even seen the movie – he just saw a picture of the robot in a store and became obsessed. He called him dirty robot because Wall•e is kind of rusty and jasper is kind of obsessed with dirt. Anyway, the obsession has continued and grown and when I saw this super cute Japanese fabric (have I mentioned that Japan makes the cutest fabric ever!) at the store I knew it was meant to be.

Here is the rocking chair before:

And after:

PS – This is going to be a Christmas Present for Jasper so shhhh!

make me pretty – girly little rocking chair

February 9, 2010

I think most people would have walked past this little rocking chair at the thrift store but I was so excited to take it home and rip off that hideous fabric and start over!

kids rocking chair

This project involved a little more sewing than I usually like to get involved with but I think it was worth it. I had two coordinating Amy Butler fabrics I was excited to use. I wanted the chair to be cute and girly but not super pink flowery. I picked a yellow paint to highlight the yellow in the fabric and got to work.

I know I probably should have taken a picture with some kind of cute teddy bear but we are Yo Gabba Gabba fans around here!

So tell me what you think. Is the yellow too crazy?

If you know a little princess this would be perfect for check it out on etsy.
