make me pretty – two new pieces for the orange anniversary party!

May 7, 2014

This first re-do is actually the second time around for this little table. I painted it orange about a year ago but was never able to sell it. I guess maybe the orange was too bright. Maybe there just aren’t that many orange people out there. So I decided to a go a little safer this time around with a nice blue paint and an Ikat stencil.

I also found this towel rack at the thrift store that I thought would be perfect for the bathroom art shoe at Orange. I had to loose the cross stitch and replaced it with some of my favorite Amy Butler fabric. I painted it with chalk paint and distressed it. I am kind of in love with it. I almost kept it for myself!

make me pretty – am i a table or a bench?

April 9, 2014

I found this table/bench in the alley and decided to paint it a fun color. I had been wanting to try the Annie Sloan red which I had heard was a really good red. I have found it really hard to find the perfect red. It’s either too orange or two pink but this one was just right.

Now tell me, is this piece of furniture a table or a bench? I made a pillow for it thinking it would be a great bench with a little table spot on each side but it just didn’t look right.

make me pretty – a boring coffee table makeover

February 12, 2014

This coffee table really didn’t have a lot going for it. Pretty boring design. Pretty boring color. But it is solid wood and sturdy and I like a challenge!

I forgot to take a before picture so you will have to use your imagination but it was your basic reddish brown stained table.

I painted her cream and used a new stencil on the top. Then I finished her off with a couple of coats if polyurethane to protect my careful paint job.

It’s at Orange in Carytown if your interested!

make me pretty – alley table goes ikat

November 18, 2013

Another alley find in need of some tlc. I forgot to take a before picture but you can probably imagine it pretty easily – dark brown wood, a chip in the wood venire, a thick layer of dust. The perfect surface for me to try out my new ikat stencil!

make me pretty – alley coffee table

August 14, 2013

I have a very nice friend who alerts me when she sees decent furniture discarded in the alleys of our neighborhood. That’s how I acquired this coffee table. Yes, it was missing its too top glass pieces but there was really nice caning and it was in great shape!

First I did a good sanding because some of the finish was peeling off. Then I painted it with gray chalk paint.

I went to Lowes and got plywood cut to the size of the two coffee table openings. Having three kids I am starting to appreciate non-breakable furniture more and more. I thought it would nice to stencil the plywood and put it where the glass use to go.

Once I stenciled the wood inserts I sanded them down really well. I wanted the whole thing to have an aged, distressed look.

make me pretty – the color of the year!

March 25, 2013

I must be good at predicting the future. Or maybe it’s just that green is my favorite color. I see emerald green everywhere now and I am loving it. I painted our bathroom vanity emerald green when we renovated last year. I still had some of the paint and decided to use it on this little table.

Then I put a stencil on top in a dark gray. Jasper, my five year old, said I should have used white because you couldn’t see the gray very well, but that was the look I was going for. Then I painted the whole thing with an antiquing glaze.

I am super pregnant right now, my due date was yesterday. I hadn’t painted any furniture in a couple weeks but I was getting so antsy! This little table was the perfect small project to keep me going!

make me pretty – my biggest project yet!

August 20, 2012

When I re-did this chair for R•Home magazine a couple months ago I knew that I had three more just like it waiting in the garage for me to work on. Along with a dining room table with a leaf. Oh my goodness, the same chair four times. This was not super exciting but seeing it all finished and put together is pretty awesome!

Here is the before:

And here it is all set up at the West End Antiques Mall.

The sad thing is that this dining set is so much nicer than the one I have at home (which could really use some work)! If I had a smaller family this might just have ended up in my house.
