Last Monday I was on VA This Morning again. This time demonstrating how to make a custom lampshade covered with fabric. This is a super easy project, especially if you use a drum shade.

Here is a detailed tutorial – good luck!

darling octopus on tv – t-shirt scarves

December 12, 2012

I was on Virginia This Morning this week demonstrating the easiest craft project ever. All you need is an old t-shirt and a pair of scissors and you can make yourself a t-shirt scarf. I demonstrated one similar to this one:

But here are some more styles you can make.

I warn you, this project is kind of addicting. The instant gratification will make you want to make more!

how to make paper garlands – darling octopus on virginia this morning

November 21, 2012

This morning I was on TV again, this time demonstrating how to make a paper flower garland from vintage book pages. This craft project is almost free and really the possibilities are endless. I found some old encyclopedias and went crazy making holiday decorations this year.

Another favorite old paper craft project is this paper tree. All you need is an old book, glue gun, an old pot and a stick from outside.

Here are some more detailed instructions from Lemony Tree Creations.

And here are some different paper garlands to inspire you:

how to make felt wreaths – darling octopus on virginia this morning

November 19, 2012

This morning I was on Virginia This Morning demonstrating how to make felt wreaths. I will post the video as soon as it’s available. This is a super easy, no sew project, that even the kids can do.

You are basically just cutting felt strip in whatever design you fancy and glueing them around a wreath. I like to use the straw wreaths because they are thicker than the styrofoam ones. If you are looking for a good selection of interesting felt try Quilting Adventures at Willow Lawn.

And here are a couple other felt wreaths to inspire you!

darling octopus on tv

January 7, 2012

Tune in to Virginia This Morning on CBS6 this Monday, January 9th and you will see me on tv! I will be appearing to show you, and all of VA, how to make your own, all natural household cleaners. I will be demonstrating how to make an all purpose cleaner and a glass cleaner.

I started using this all purpose cleaner recipe when Jasper was born, almost four years ago. It is really great for counter tops, dirty doggy foot prints and sticky juice spills. It is made from all natural ingredients so you don’t need to worry about using it around your kids. And it contains tea tree oil, which contains antibacterial and antifungal properties so you feel like things are really getting clean.

I will post the recipes here after my tv debut! I also made some lovely labels that you should download and print out for your cleaner bottles.

If you missed me on Virginia This Morning, you can watch a video here. Thanks so much to everyone at CBS6! It was a really fun experience!

And here are the recipes:

• 3/4 cup white vinegar
• 1 cup hydrogen peroxide
• 1 1/2 teaspoons castile soap (such as Dr Bronner’s)
• 30 drops tea tree oil
• 30 drops essential oil (use any scent you like)

Place all ingredients in a 32 oz spray bottle using a funnel or a measuring cup with a spout. Add water until the bottle’s full. Shake to mix and get to cleaning.

• 1 cup rubbing alcohol
• 1 cup water
• 1 tablespoon white vinegar
• 20 drops essential oil

Place all ingredients in a spray bottle. Shake to mix.
